Guidance Notes
Workflow:
1- Application: The applicant submits a reinstatement request directly to the CAA, including a written justification for reinstatement and relevant medical reports or supporting evidence demonstrating fitness to resume duties.
2- Initial Review: The CAA Medical Assessor conducts an initial evaluation of the submitted documents. Based on the complexity of the case, the CAA may refer the applicant to one or more of the following:
- A Designated Medical Examiner (AME) or Aeromedical Center (AeMC) for a full medical reassessment. If referred, the applicant must first complete a Medical Self-Evaluation Form. The AME/AeMC then conducts the reassessment and submits a report and recommendation to the CAA.
- A Medical Investigation Facility for specialized diagnostic testing or further evaluation.
- A CAA-Approved Collection Officer or Tester for drug and alcohol testing under the DAMP, where applicable.
3- CAA Evaluation and Decision: Upon receiving all required assessments and reports, the CAA Medical Assessors review the complete case. The decision is based on compliance with Civil Aviation Regulations (CARs) and medical fitness standards.
4- Outcome: If all regulatory conditions are met, the CAA confirms reinstatement and updates the Medical Certificate accordingly. The applicant is officially notified of the outcome.
